The special edition HP Pavilion dv6880se is probably one of the least expensive laptops available to feature a Blu-ray compatible drive. This makes it an excellent hi-definition mobile movie player even with its limited resolution display. Of course, it packs enough other features to do just about any task, execpt maybe for 3D gaming.
For a special edition notebook, the Pavilion dv6880se actually doesn't really look all that different from a standard Pavilion dv6000. The main difference is in the general appearance. The dv6880se uses silver for the keyboard and has a white LCD lib cover with Influx print over the more traditional black and silver designs.
HP's Pavilion dv6880se laptop uses a bit older Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 dual core processor rather than a newer T7000 or even T8000 series. This does give it a bit less performance than the newer models and it doesn't have as strong life of battery such as Hp Pavilion ZE2000 battery(Hp ze2000 battery), compaq Presario M2000 battery(compaq m2000 battery), Compaq Presario V2000 battery(compaq v2000 battery), Hp pavillion zx5000 battery(Hp zx5000 battery), Hp PP2200 battery, Hp 338794-001 battery, but it still has more than enough processing power for the average consumer. The 3GB of DDR2 memory is also a nice step up from the standard 2GB. This allows the system to run a bit more smoothly with the Vista operating system.
With the death of the HD-DVD format, Blu-ray is now the defacto high definition video format. HP has managed to include a Blu-ray ROM and DVD burner combo drive on the Pavilion dv6880se. This is probably one of the least expensive notebooks on the market to feature such a drive. This makes the laptop a great mobile movie platform. The darwback to this is the screen doesn't have high enough resolution to support the 1080p resolution. There is an HDMI output to hook it up to a TV though.
The biggest flaw with the dv6880se though is the graphics. It does feature a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics processor, but this lacks much of the performance required for those that might think of using it for 3D PC gaming. It does provide a nice performance boost for decoding high definition video streams though.
