Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist

ASUS offered some outstanding battery performance in their previous 1005HA but they have managed to improve on that with the PineTrail based Eee PC 1005PE. Users can expect to easily achieve over ten hours of running time in most applications. Unfortunately, the PineTrail platform doesn't really improve on the performance much and HD video support is still missing. Still, it is currently the best choice for those needing long running times and it doesn't hurt that it has an attractive design and comfortable keyboard.

Powering the ASUS Eee PC 1005PE netbook is the new Intel PineTrail platform including the Atom N450 processor and the GMA 3150 integrated graphics. Performance wise, the new processor and graphics don't add much to user experience over the previous generation netbooks. There are some improvements to the memory system that will translate into a slight gain but it is almost imperceptible to the user. Much of the performance is still held back by the 1GB of memory required by the Windows 7 licensing.
The 10.1-inch LCD screen is still the same size as before even though Microsoft allows larger screens now. It does have a wider bezel design than would be preferred but it appears much more flush than other netbooks on the market. Those hoping the new graphics would allow for HD video streaming will also be disappointed. HD video streaming from Hulu, YouTube and other sources is not even possible at the 720p rates.
Thanks to the new Windows 7 netbook licensing terms from Microsoft, ASUS has decided to increase the hard drive to the new 250GB storage limit. This provide the system with a nice boost in space for storing applications and media files but it does also increase the overall cost from previous generations of netbooks.
The truly amazing aspect of the ASUS 1005PE is the battery life. In my video streaming test, the system was able to run nearly eight full hours before going into standby mode. That is hours longer than most of the competition and easily translates into over ten hours of standard usage making it a real all day computing device for those that need a system to go without a power plug for extended periods.
The new design for the ASUS Eee PC 1005PE keeps the overall seashell base look and feel but does make a few changes. The exterior is a very high gloss that is a magnet for fingerprints and smudges. The keyboard is still very comfortable thanks to the isolated key design. The only complaint is the reduced size right shift key. ASUS does use a single button mouse that requires getting used to to distinguish between right and left clicks.<
Priced at $380, the ASUS Eee PC 1005PE isn't the most expensive of the new PineTrail netbooks but it is somewhat above average in cost. For those that need the extremely long running time, it is well worth the extra cost though.
