Thousands of women complain of a low sex drive. By some counts, over 40% of women report having absolutely no sex drive whatsoever. An article in Women’s Health Magazine recently spoke with one woman and her journey to finding her mojo again after the surprising realization that her choice of contraception had been hindering her orgasmic possibilities. For some, the road to happy endings begins with a birth control switch.

The Pill. The contraceptive choice is a highly personal decision, and one which should require extensive research and talks with a physician. For millions of women, the pill has been the go-to choice for birth control for decades, which has proven to be a havoc-wreaker on many a libido.

Sarah’s Story. According to Women’s Health, one woman who is being referred to as a pseudonym, Sarah, spoke with them about her experiences that led her to have the explosive orgasmic experience of her dreams. What did she do? She switched from the pill to an IUD.

Contraceptive Choice. It’s important to note before we tell Sarah’s story, that not everyone has the same results from the pill, an IUD, or any form of contraceptive for that matter. Since every woman’s body is different, everyone responds differently to various methods.

Pro-Active. Like many women, Sarah began taking the pill as prescribed by her doctor, before she became sexually active. For some the choice is pure responsibility, and for others it’s been done for regulating irregular periods. Thousands of women are prescribed the pill to help keep regular cycles every month.

Experience. In Sarah’s case, since she had never experienced sex prior to starting birth control, she had no frame of reference to understand anything was “off” once she became sexually active. “People talk about how the pleasure builds, and I never felt that way,” she said.

Less Interested. Sarah says the longer it went on, the less she desired sex. Her body wouldn’t allow her to feel an orgasm the way others had described things to her, and she began to feel it was all fiction. Sarah found herself getting frustrated and becoming less and less interested in sex.
