HP ProBook 4510s review

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist

HP's 4510s is the only laptop with Vista Business in this category, but that's no reason to avoid it if you're choosing a laptop for home use.

The ProBook came second in this group's 2D benchmark results and, thanks to a Radeon HD 4330 graphics chipset, did surprisingly well in our Call of Duty 4 benchmark, scoring 14.2fps. At 2.6kg, it's portable enough, and with a decent battery such as Hp F4098A battery, Hp F4809A battery, Hp F4812A battery, Hp 319411-001 battery, Compaq Presario 2100 battery(compaq 2100 battery), Compaq Presario 2500 battery(compaq 2500 battery), Compaq Presario NX9010 battery, Compaq Presario NX9000 battery life of over five hours it's ideal for long commutes or short flights.

Most business laptops come with a smart card reader and other security measures that are wasted on home users, but the 4510s has none of these. Instead you'll find features such as an HDMI port and a memory card reader. There's a 320GB hard disk and four USB ports, plus Bluetooth and Draft-N WiFi. An ExpressCard slot is also present, but it's the smaller 34mm variety.

We really liked the square-edged, piano-black case, which overhangs the ports around the edge. The keyboard has flat, square keys that are separated from each other, with the glossy case visible between them. Keys have a light action and enough travel to provide adequate feedback for touch-typists. There's a gap between the main keyboard and the numberpad, and the layout is neat and clear. The touchpad is a bit small and the button action is a little light and loose, though.

The screen's matt finish cuts down on reflections, but reduces contrast slightly and adds a graininess to areas of solid colour. However, colours were accurate and the backlight bright and even. The 16:9 aspect ratio is a surprise for a business laptop, but again makes this a good choice for video.

With its smart design, good performance and battery life and a sensible array of features, the 4510s can handle most office tasks, and even play some 3D games. Just bear in mind that Vista Business lacks Home Premium's Media Center, which you'll miss if you plan to add a TV tuner in the future. It's a well-balanced package, but if you don't need the battery life or 3D performance, Packard Bell's EasyNote is a better choice for £115 less.
