Toshiba Laptop Battery

laptop computers play a very important role in our lives. We use them daily, all day long because of the work that we have to do. With their help, we are able to finish much faster our projects and more efficient. Such a device offers its user many advantages. One of the biggest is the portability factor. Being so small and lightweight, a laptop computer can be carried everywhere by its user. Being able to carry your computer everywhere you go is a great thing because you know that at every moment you can access different files and documents that you have to read or edit.

On the market we can find many types of laptop computers from all the manufacturers in the world. There are many companies that are known all over the world for their great products that are sold in every electronic store. One of the most famous laptop manufacturers is Toshiba. Toshiba is a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation that produces desktops, notebooks, servers, netbooks, peripherals, digital products, electronic devices and components and home appliances. It was founded in 1939 and its headquarter is situated in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. In 2009, they managed to have a revenue of over 6.000 billion yens.

Their laptop computers are bought by many people worldwide because of their great specifications and built quality. Many users are very pleased with their Toshiba product and say that its hardware is great and so is the built quality. The battery is also highly appreciated by many users.

The Toshiba Laptop Battery is a 6 cell Li-Ion battery such as Toshiba PA2487U Battery, Toshiba PA3107U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3383U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3384U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3285U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3191U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3166U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3331U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3098U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3084U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3399U-1BRS Battery, Toshiba PA3395U-1BRS Battery and Toshiba PA3250U-1BRS Battery. This means that it offers the device a good period of time that doesn’t require to be recharged. Without such a battery, a laptop wouldn’t be so popular and bought. The battery practically gives the device life and offers its user to work on it everywhere as long is the battery full. Most laptop computers have a life time of 2 or 3 hours depending on the program they run on. There are many laptop computers that gives the user the possibility to choose a program to run on. These programs are very different and every program can save a certain period of time in the batteries life. We generally find three programs that we have to chose from: high performance, balanced and power saver. The Toshiba laptop battery has a different lifetime depending on those programs. The most recommended to use is the balanced program because you manage to have a longer time of using the laptop without recharging and you also have a good performance.

All in all, the Toshiba laptop battery plays a very important role in the laptops life and on it depends the lifetime of the device.

Life of Batteries

Dell's recall of 4.1 million laptop batteries has renewed the discussion about the effectiveness of modern power sources. For the last decade, mobile technologies have become more pervasive and smaller and chipsets have become more powerful. It's been a wonderful time for handheld devices and laptops.

However, advances in batteries -- and whether this fact is true or perceived is still up in the air -- have lagged behind advances in memory and computing power. (The New York Times has an interesting article about the current developments in battery research.)

More often than not, the biggest impediment for me, as I cart around a cornucopia of devices, is hauling the mass of wires and power sources I need to make everything go for extended periods. In other words, we're facing the same problem today -- the power supply problem -- that Nicholas Negroponte wrote about in his 1995 Being Digital.

Here is a snippet from the book:

If the progress in battery technology developed at the same pace as integrated circuits, we would be commuting to work in cars powered by flashlight batteries. Instead, I carry more than ten pounds of batteries when traveling in order to feed my laptop on a long flight. Over time, batteries for laptops have gotten heavier, as notebook computers have acquired more functions and brighter displays. (In 1979 Sony's Typecorder, the first laptop, used only four AA batteries.)

A few years back, I talked with researchers in one of IBM's battery such as IBM 92P1101 Battery, IBM 92P1089 Battery, IBM 92P1087 Battery, IBM 08K8196 Battery, IBM 92P1102 Battery, IBM 92P1077 Battery, IBM 92P1073 Battery, IBM 08K8199 Battery, IBM 08K8198 Battery, IBM 08K8197 Battery, IBM 92P1075 Battery, IBM ThinkPad R40 Battery, IBM ThinkPad R32 Battery research groups. What struck me -- and this thought came back as I re-read Negroponte's work and skimmed the Dell articles -- was IBM's research focused on reducing battery power leakage. That, they thought, was the best chance for improving battery power, even though their work would lead to only minimal gains.

It's an interesting quandary for mobile computing, one that is likely to hamstring the industry for some time.

Fuel for the New Millennium

As a future fuel source, hydrogen inspires a lot of hope -- and more than a little wariness. But one New Jersey startup has developed a hydrogen-powered fuel cell technology for portable devices that it's promising can be as safe and even longer-lasting than today's batteries.

Millennium Cell of Eatontown, N.J. has developed a proprietary process that uses sodium borohydride -- a chemical synthesized from borax, a mineral commonly found in laundry detergents -- to produce hydrogen. Stored in its liquid form, the sodium borohydride solution is passed through a chamber containing a proprietary catalyst, and hydrogen is released as needed. Millennium Cell doesn't make the actual fuel cells, but instead partners with different fuel cell manufacturers that license its system.

Debuted at a recent trade show, Millennium's “hydrogen on demand" process differs from most other fuel cell technologies geared toward portable devices. Typically, they rely on methanol (also known as methyl alcohol, or wood alcohol), which is considered more stable, but less powerful, than compressed hydrogen. Millennium sidesteps the issue of stability by storing its fuel in the form of the stable and non-explosive sodium borohydride solution, and converting it to hydrogen as needed.

Millennium isn't the only company to move beyond methanol as a fuel choice. New York City-based rival Medis Technologies utilizes a proprietary sodium borohydride chemistry to run its portable Power Pack. Nevertheless, fuel-cell technology is considered to be moving forward only slowly, as would-be developers, including some of the world's biggest electronics makers, wrestle with issues of size, energy density, and even federal aviation regulations, which could keep such power sources off planes. In this atmosphere, the use of hydrogen, some feel, might help overcome existing challenges and propel the market forward.

Walter Nasdio, managing director for Ardour Capital Investments, a New York City broker-dealer focused on the energy sector, says Millennium's technology “stacks up well" against methanol-driven competitors in terms of energy density and utility.

"Methanol got a toehold, and methanol is cheap," Nasdio says. "But there are issues with handling it and putting it on planes." Concerns abound that flammable liquid methanol will cause safety issues if spilled, and therefore might not be allowed on airplanes for a long time to come.

As a replacement for batteries, fuel cells are looked toward as a longer-lasting power source for laptops and cellphones, which proponents say is needed to run today's more-demanding mobile devices.

"There's a market disconnect in portable electronics," says Chris McDougall, program manager of portable electronics power for the Dow Ventures Group, the business unit of Dow Chemical, which recently invested in Millennium Cell. "Electronics are wanting longer and longer run times and wanting more and more power."

Today's batteries, he says, just can't keep up. A typical rechargeable laptop battery (such as Sony laptop battery) will provide two to four hours of AC-free power. Meanwhile, lithium ion and nickel metal hydride batteries for cellphones offer as little as an hour and a half of talk time, depending on the model. As PCs and other mobile devices incorporate more power-draining features -- faster processors for better graphics and faster run rates -- conventional batteries are likely to hit a wall.

Dow Chemical sees potential in Millennium's approach. The giant chemical company recently bought a three-percent equity stake in the Millennium Cell, with the option to buy up to 19.9 percent of the company. Dow's McDougall says that Millennium has differentiated itself from its competitors in the fuel-cell development arena in the way it “utilizes hydrogen fuel." Millennium is Dow's only public investment in the fuel-cell market to date.

The prototype of the fuel cell that Millennium Cell showcased at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco in March is an external unit that's just six millimeters thick, but was reportedly able to provide only three hours of charge for a laptop such as PCGA-BP1N, PCGA-BP2NX, PCGA-BP2NY, PCGA-BP2R, PCGA-BP2S, PCGA-BP2T, PCGA-BP2V, PCGA-BP4V, PCGA-BP71, VGP-BPL2, VGP-BPS2, VGP-BPS3 and VGP-BPS5-- not much more than some batteries today. But within a couple of years, Millennium's makers expect their fuel cell to provide eight hours of power and cost about as much as a standard secondary laptop battery (around $150).

Millennium's chemical agent, sodium borohydride, is a synthetic compound produced from sodium metal and borax, a mineral often found in dried-up seabeds -- with plentiful reserves in the United States, making it a cost-effective fuel, according to John D. Giolli, acting CFO of Millennium Cell.

Along with being "10 times as energy rich as lithium," currently used to power lithium ion batteries, and slightly more powerful than methanol, Giolli says his Hydrogen on Demand system limits the need for platinum, which is typically used as a catalyst in methanol fuel-cell reactions, and which could drive up the costs of fuel cells when they come to market.

Hydrogen has been the fuel of choice for larger fuel cell systems, like the ones currently being developed to power automobiles some day; but until recently it has not been a popular choice for smaller power sources because of its storage needs.

Fujitsu Battery Manufacturing

Provisions in the Congressional stimulus bill could help jump-start a new, multibillion-dollar industry in the United States for manufacturing advanced batteries for hybrids and electric vehicles and for storing energy from the electrical grid to enable the widespread use of renewable energy. The nearly $790 billion economic stimulus legislation contains tens of billions of dollars in loans, grants, and tax incentives for advanced battery research and manufacturing, as well as incentives for plug-in hybrids and improvements to the electrical grid, which could help create a market for these batteries.

Significant advances in battery materials, including the development of new lithium-ion batteries, have been made in the United States in the past few years. But advanced battery manufacturing is almost entirely overseas, particularly in Asia. As a result, advanced battery startups in the United States typically have their batteries made outside the United States. But this need not be the case, says Prabhakar Patil, the CEO of Compact Power, a subsidiary of the South Korean company LG Chem, based in Troy, MI. Battery manufacturing is largely automated, so labor costs aren't much of a concern, he says. Rather, the battery industry developed in Asia because countries there, particularly Japan, developed portable electronics and hybrid vehicles, creating a market for batteries.

Now, with the push to rely more on renewable energy and less on fossil fuels, a market for advanced batteries is starting to develop in the United States. This, combined with incentive for manufacturers in the United States, could allow an advanced battery industry to develop in this country. But many experts say that serious obstacles remain to getting the industry off the ground. Investors are reluctant to provide capital for battery plants because the markets are still relatively small. And the markets are still small in part because batteries are expensive, which is itself partly because they're currently made in low volumes.

The stimulus bill could help address both problems. It sets aside $2 billion in grants for manufacturing advanced Fujitsu Laptop Battery such as Fujitsu FPCBP80 Battery, Fujitsu FPCBP77 Battery, Fujitsu FPCBP68 Battery, Fujitsu FPCBP63 Battery and Fujitsu FPCBP95 Battery, plus tax credits to cover 30 percent of the cost of a plant (up to $2.4 billion in total credits). This is in addition to $7.5 billion in loans authorized in a previous bill for manufacturing advanced technology for vehicles, which includes batteries. Employees for these factories could be trained as part of $500 million in funding for retraining workers for green jobs. There is also $16.8 billion going to energy efficiency and renewable energy, which will likely include money for battery research to bring down costs and improve performance.

Additionally, there are provisions that will help ensure a market for the batteries. Tax credits of up to $7,500 will go to people who buy hybrids with large batteries that can be recharged by plugging them in; there will also be smaller incentives for converting cars into such plug-in vehicles. What's more, $300 million is set aside for federal agencies to buy alternative fuel vehicles, including plug-ins, as well as $400 million for "transportation electrification." There will also be $4.5 billion set aside for improving the electric grid, some of which is supposed to go for research on and manufacturing of batteries.

Some experts are nervous about how the money will be spent. The Department of Energy (DOE), which will be administering much of the funds, is under pressure to distribute money quickly, which some fear will increase the possibility that the funds will be misallocated. Patil, whose company will be supplying the battery packs for the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle due out in 2010, says that there are plenty of lithium ion chemistries that don't make sense for automotive applications, and he hopes that the DOE will take note of this in its funding. Robert Kanode, the CEO of Valence Technologies, a battery manufacturer based in the United States (but with manufacturing in China), is likewise concerned that funding will go to technologies that have little chance of commercial success.

While it's not clear that battery costs will come down enough to create a large market for plug-in hybrids, the advances in battery technology in the United States have put the country in a position to develop a new battery industry, says Ted Miller, the senior manager for energy storage strategy and research at Ford Motor Company and a manager at a research consortium set up by the Big Three automakers. "Our weakness is not in research," he says. "Now we need to find a way to kick-start manufacturing."

Wi-Fi Without a Base Station

The recently-announced Ozmo2000 chip is the first device that purports to support the not-yet finalized WiFi Direct standard. WiFi Direct promises to end the dependence of WiFi devices on nearby base stations: instead, they'll communicate directly with each other, advertising their presence, setting up ad-hoc networks and even hooking up with old school WiFi enabled devices.

WiFi Direct and chips like the Ozmo2000 will end the conundrum of why an iPhone (for example) can't wirelessly connect directly to a nearby laptop when both aren't in range of a base station.

So-called WiFi Personal Area Networks such as Intel's My WiFi already allow a version of this functionality, but it's limited - it only works between a laptop with Intel's Centrino chip running Windows 7 and a short list of approved devices.

WiFi Direct is supposed to be the higher-bandwidth, longer-range, more secure successor to the Bluetooth communication standard that already enables our keyboards, mice and headsets to communicate with our laptops and headsets.

In that mold, the Ozmo2000 chip, which initially only works with laptops running Windows 7, allows a laptop such as pavilion dv6000(Hp dv6000 battery), Pavilion dv8000(Hp dv8000 battery), Hp HSTNN-DB20, Hp 395789-001, Hp 396008-001, Pavilion dv9000(Hp dv9000 battery), Hp EV087AA, Hp EX942AA, Pavilion ZT3000 to connect wirelessly, via WiFi, to keyboards, mice and any other devices with a small add-on Ozmo radio - one that will be built into the device and will be available in peripherals starting in 2011.

More importantly, software updates should allow the Ozmo2000 chip will to connect via WiFi Direct once the standard is finalized.

This means, for example, that cell phones will be able to connect to one another via ad-hoc WiFi networks for data transfers or simple push notifications. Walking by a neighborhood cafe could mean you're pushed a coupon for a free coffee, for instance, or driving by the community theater could mean that you get a flyer for upcoming shows.

Also, in theory, keyboards could start connecting to keyboards, headsets to headsets, keyboards to printers, iPods to wireless mice, etc. It'll be like the apocalypse, with all manner of unholy couplings.

A New Memory Company

In the era of iPods and smart phones, flash memory rules: it's small and rugged, and it keeps getting cheaper. But on the heels of flash comes faster, even more robust technology called phase-change memory, which is just starting to come out of the lab. Now Numonyx, a joint venture that combines the flash and phase-change memory efforts of Intel and STMicroelectronics, has officially launched its operations. In doing so, the company has taken a leading spot in the burgeoning phase-change memory industry. By the end of this year, Numonyx expects to commercialize phase-change memory, and by the middle of the next decade, the company hopes to make it increase its storage capacity to render it competitive with flash as a solid-state drive replacement.

Phase-change memory, which uses a glassy material, stores information via a change in its physical state, rather than using electrical charges, as in flash. A tiny electrode heats each memory cell; the cell's state depends on the manner in which it is heated, and it subsequently represents either a 1 or a 0.

At a press conference in San Francisco on Monday, Brian Harrison, CEO of Numonyx, said that phase-change memory has all the benefits of NOR and NAND flash technologies. (NOR is used in cell phones to execute code, and NAND has been used as a storage memory.) For instance, said Harrison, phase-change memory can have data read from it quickly like NOR flash, and data can be written to it as quickly as in NAND flash. In addition, phase-change memory doesn't wear out, losing bits of data over time, as flash memory does.

In the near term, phase-change memory could replace the expensive and energy-consuming random access memory in cell phones, and in a few more years, it could potentially become a cost-effective alternative to flash. A customer who uses a phone with phase-change memory might notice extended battery(such as Toshiba PA3107U-1BAS Battery and Toshiba PA3591U-1BAS Battery) life, said Harrison. "Intel and STMicroelectronics have been working [together] on phase-change memory for more than five years," he said. "We have a product today that we are sampling, and expect to bring it to market this year. I believe it will be one to two years before it becomes widely available."

Numonyx is made of the combined memory assets of Intel and STMicroelectronics, which include intellectual property, fabrication facilities, and employees. With the announcement, the company becomes the leading provider of NOR flash memory, and the third largest provider of nonvolatile memory (technology that retains data when the power supply is off), with a combined revenue of approximately $3 billion. It trails both Samsung and Toshiba in overall nonvolatile-memory market share.

In February, Intel and STMicroelectronics announced a new type of phase-change memory technology that doubles the storage capacity of each memory cell. Edward Dollar, chief technology officer of Numonyx, suspects that this improved phase-change memory, which has been transferred to Numonyx, could be ready to be mass-produced by the end of the decade. By doubling the capability of phase-change memory, he says, "it starts to become competitive" with the type of flash memory used in solid-state hard drives.

Samsung is also developing phase-change memory. But Numonyx is in a good position to lead the industry in phase-change memory, says Jim Handy, an analyst at Objective Analysis, a market research firm. "In phase-change memory, there's really only a handful of companies who are dabbling in the technology," he says.

Numonyx is funded by $150 million from the Francisco Partners investment firm, and it makes use of more than 2,500 issued patents; another 1,000 patents are pending from its parent companies.

The Year in Materials

For years now, people have been talking up carbon nanotubes and their potential to be used for far-out applications including strong space-elevator cables, robust electrical transmission lines, and high-performance nanotube computers. These things may still be a decade off, but several advances this year make them sound less like fantasies.

Researchers at Rice University refined methods for spinning acid solutions of carbon nanotubes into fibers hundreds of meters long ("Making Carbon Nanotubes into Long Fibers"). Their process, which could be used industrially (it's similar to how Kevlar is made), is the culmination of eight years of work begun by the late Richard Smalley, who shared the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1996 for the discovery of carbon nanomaterials ("Wires of Wonder"). In order to make electrical transmission lines, researchers still need to perfect a process for growing pure batches of metallic nanotubes. Today they come out mixed with semiconducting tubes, and the two must be separated. Still, the Rice demonstration of making nanotubes into large structures is a major accomplishment.

On the nanotube electronics front, the year started out strong. The company Unidym, which makes transparent electrodes from carbon nanotubes, demonstrated its products, and companies including Samsung tested them in displays ("Clear Carbon-Nanotube Films"). Unidym's nanotube films could be incorporated into flexible displays and replace the expensive, brittle materials currently used to make display electrodes.

The year also brought major accomplishments in making more sophisticated nanotube devices for displays, including the integrated circuits that drive them ("Practical Nanotube Electronics"). One of the major advantages of nanotube display circuits is that they could be printed like newspaper, which should bring down costs. And this month at the International Electron Devices Meeting, researchers at Stanford presented the first three-dimensional nanotube circuits ("Complex Integrated Circuits Made of Carbon Nanotubes"). The processes their nanotube circuits can carry out, like adding and storing numbers, are about as sophisticated as what silicon could do in the mid-1960s.

Meanwhile, researchers at Cornell made an interesting basic science demonstration: single nanotubes can be wired up to make extremely efficient solar cells ("Superefficient Solar from Nanotubes"). While conventional solar materials can only produce one electron per striking photon, carbon nanotubes can produce two if the photon has enough energy.

Nanomaterials, Big Energy

Activity in academic labs and companies this year showed that energy-storage materials structured on the nanoscale have a greater capacity than their conventional counterparts. This concept launched two startups that received government funding. FastCAP Systems of Cambridge, MA, is developing ultracapacitors based on carbon nanotubes, which can store a large amount of electrical charge because of their huge surface area ("Ultracapacitor Startup Gets a Big Boost"). The company received an ARPA-E grant for $5.35 million over two-and-a-half years. And Amprius of Menlo Park, CA, received $3 million from the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop high-performance lithium-ion battery anodes made from silicon nanowires ("More Energy in Batteries"). Both companies are aiming for the electric-car market, hoping to make energy-storage devices that will allow cars to run longer between charges.

Nanomaterials continued to prove their promise in solar cells. Researchers determined that solar cells patterned with nanoscale pillars can convert more energy than smooth ones. The upshot: the performance of cheap materials can be boosted without adding expense, and it's possible to make them on aluminum foil ("Nanopillar Solar Cells"). This work was done at the University of California, Berkeley, by one of Technology Review's 35 young innovators of 2009, Ali Javey. Another Berkeley researcher on our young innovators list, Cyrus Wadia, analyzed the abundance and properties of unconventional solar materials and then made strides in developing them. One of the materials is pyrite, also known as fool's gold, which Wadia is growing as nanocrystals ("Mining Fool's Gold for Solar"). The advantage of nanocrystals for solar cells is that they can be made into inks and cheaply printed. Meanwhile, one of Wadia's mentors, Paul Alivisatos, interim director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, founded a company to develop high-efficiency, low-cost solar cells based on nanomaterials. Solexant of San Jose, CA, hopes to sell printed nanocrystal solar cells with 10 percent efficiencies for $1 per watt ("Thin-Film Solar with High Efficiency").

Harvesting Energy from Strange Sources

Cheap, yet efficient, solar cells could help wean us from dirty electricity sources. But that's not what Zhong Lin Wang at Georgia Tech has in mind. Technology Review recognized his work on nanopiezotronics, nanowires and other structures that convert mechanical stress into electrical currents, in our special section on the 10 emerging technologies of the year. Zinc-oxide nanowires that produce an electrical current when stressed could provide a power source for implantable diagnostics and stress sensors embedded in buildings and bridges. These materials could also be woven into an iPod-charging jacket that harvests the small amount of energy produced by the rustling of fabric as you walk. A series of papers produced by Wang throughout the year further established the concept, showing that nanopiezotronics could harness the energy produced by a running hamster ("Harnessing Hamster Power with a Nanogenerator"), that they could act as stress sensors ("Nanosensing Transistors Controlled by Stress"), and that they could be combined with solar cells in a hybrid nanogenerator ("A Hybrid Nano-Energy Harvester").

Optical Materials Advance

Part of the 2009 Nobel Prize in physics went to a researcher whose work formed the basis of modern telecommunications. Charles Kuo figured out why optical fibers that had been made in the lab in the 1960s weren't working: the material contained impurities that attenuated the signal. Based on this finding, Kuo determined that pure glass could realize the potential of optical data transmission to speed the flow of information ("Nobel for Revolutionary Optical Technologies"). Modern optical fibers are even better than what Kao predicted, losing just 5 percent of the light over a distance of a kilometer; today there are over one billion kilometers of optical fiber around the world, with more being added each day.

And this year Intel announced its intention to replace copper wires used to carry data between your MP3 player, laptop such as Hp F4486B, Hp CGR-B1870AE,Pavilion ZD7000, Hp PP2182D, Hp 338794-001, Hp PP2182L, Hp 345027-001, Hp 342661-001, pavilion dv6000(Hp dv6000 battery), and other devices with optical fiber ("Intel's Plan to Replace Copper Wires"). In 2010, the company will ship Light Peak data cables that will zip 10 gigabits of data per second between gadgets using light, which is much faster than electrons.

A fundamental advance in optics this year was the fabrication of an extremely small laser that may eventually be developed into a compact light source for optical computers ("The Smallest Laser Ever Made"). Optical devices can operate at hundreds of terahertz, compared to the 10 gigahertz speeds of the best consumer electronics. But optical devices are difficult to miniaturize. The "nano laser," made by researchers at Cornell, Purdue, and Norfolk State universities, helps overcome this problem.

Ultradense Data Storage and Biodegradable Electronics

The year also brought innovative materials for storing more data for longer periods of time. Layers of gold nanorods that polarize light and reflect different colors can store data in five dimensions ("Five-Dimensional Data Storage"); optical antennas that focus light to tiny, intense spots to heat bits could extend the lifetime of magnetic data storage ("Heating Up Magnetic Memory"); and researchers at HP looked to magnetic nanowires to make racetrack memory ("TR10: Racetrack Memory").

Meanwhile, researchers in Japan demonstrated the first plastic, flexible flash memory device, which might be incorporated into unconventional electronics such as disposable sensors ("Cheap, Plastic Memory for Flexible Devices"). Researchers in Illinois worked wonders with silicon to make electronics that took strange forms, including flexible LED arrays ("Cheaper LEDs") and biocompatible electronics ("Implantable Silicon-Silk Electronics") that could drive medical implants. These projects were led by John Rogers, who invented a stretchable silicon technology we recognized in 2006 ("Stretchable Silicon"). And at Stanford, researchers made the first fully biodegradable transistors, which might control drug delivery in future medical implants ("Biodegradable Transistors").

Toshiba Recalls Laptops Due To Overheating Risk

Some 41,000 Toshiba laptops have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission due to reports of overheating and melting. The commission said Thursday that the computers "can overheat at the notebook's plug-in to the AC adapter, posing a burn hazard to consumers."

The affected models are certain Toshiba Satellite T135, Satellite T135D, and Satellite Pro T130 notebooks.

Toshiba has received 129 reports of overheating computers, which have led to a misshaping of the plastic casing area by the AC adapter plug, the commission said. The company's website said that some of the Satellite and Satellite Pro laptops were "manufactured with a potentially faulty DC-In harness." There were two reports of minor burn injuries and minor property damage.

The T130 series models involved in the recall were sold between August 2009 and August 2010 at electronics stores nationwide and online retailers including at toshibadirect.com. They are priced at between $600 and $800.

The commission said that consumers with affected models should immediately download the latest version of Toshiba's BIOS computer program to their notebook computer. "This new computer program will detect whether the notebook computer is overheating, and if so, disable the notebook computer's external power and display a message directing the consumer to contact Toshiba for a free repair," the CPSC said in a statement. "Consumers who do not have Internet access should contact Toshiba to arrange for installation of the updated BIOS."

If the BIOS detects a harness failure, the external power will be immediately disabled to eliminate the issue of overheating, Toshiba said. If the computer is in use when the detection occurs, the user will see a system message stating that the external power has been disabled due to the harness failure. The remaining battery such as Toshiba PA3395U-1BRS Battery and Toshiba Tecra 8000 Battery charge can be used to continue operating the laptop without any risk of overheating, Toshiba said, adding that any open files and applications should be saved to avoid data loss. However, the battery cannot be recharged until the system has been repaired.

HP Profit Jumps As IT Spending Rises

Hewlett-Packard has reported a 5% increase in profits in the fourth fiscal quarter on a revenue increase from a rise in IT spending by businesses.

The computer maker, which released earnings Monday for the quarter ended Oct. 31, said net income grew to $2.54 billion, or $1.13 a share, from $2.41 billion, or $1.02 a share, the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 8%, to $33.28 billion from $30.78 billion.

HP benefited from increased spending by enterprises on storage and servers. Revenue from that segment jumped 25% year over year, to $5.3 billion. HP rival Dell this month also reported strong revenue increases driven by higher spending by businesses.

Also like Dell, HP reported weaker sales in consumer PCs. Sales from HP's Personal Systems Group, which includes laptops such as Pavilion DV1000(Hp dv1000 battery), Hp PF723A, Hp 367759-001, Hp PM579A, Pavilion DV4000(Hp dv4000 battery), Pavilion ZE2000(Hp ze2000 battery), Presario M2000(compaq m2000 battery) and desktops, increased 4% overall, to $10.3 billion. However, revenue from consumer PCs alone fell 10% year over year, HP said. Printer sales, including supplies, rose 8% in the quarter, to $7 billion.

The one area where some analysts expect to see improvement in the future is in software sales. HP said revenue from software in the quarter increased about 1%, to $974 million. HP recently hired Leo Apotheker, former CEO of business software maker SAP, as its chief executive. Given Apotheker's experience and HP's recent software acquisitions, including ArcSight, Fortify and Stratavia, the company is expected to focus on raising software revenues.

"HP is aware of the untapped potential its software division can provide to support growth while still adding value to its other segments, evident by the rapid software acquisitions and the appointment of former SAP CEO Leo Apotheker," Jessica Breen, analyst for Technology Business Research, said in a commentary following HP earnings. "HP Software will likely begin to explore software opportunities across 2011. However, TBR does not expect to see a quick change in HP Software’s growth trajectory."

While HP beat Wall Street's year-over-year revenue estimates, the company reported only an 8% increase from the third fiscal quarter, which was less than the 12% average quarter to quarter increase, Brian White, financial analyst for Ticonderoga Securities, said.

While HP's quarter-to-quarter sales has slowed, IT hardware vendors Cisco, Dell and Brocade in the last two weeks have provided weaker-than-expected revenue outlooks for the January quarter. In addition, NetApp's revenue forecast was only in line with expectations.

"The slowing upside momentum at HP and NetApp, combined with disappointing outlooks from Cisco, Dell and Brocade, tells us that the upside in the tech supply chain will become more difficult over the next few quarters," White said in a research note. "The January quarter sales outlooks for these five companies in aggregate totaled $60.47 billion, below the (Wall) Street estimate of $61.94 billion by 2.4%, or $1.47 billion, highlighting deteriorating demand as we exit the year."

For the current first fiscal quarter, HP predicts revenue of $32.8 billion to $33 billion and earnings per share of $1.06 to $1.08. Wall Street's average revenue estimate for the quarter is $32.7 billion, according to Thomson Reuters.

Toshiba Laptop Battery Replacement

It is dangerous for users that when an important work is running, the laptop suddenly comes to be shut down or restart automatically. At worst, the important data may be lost and never to get back. To get a proper Toshiba laptop battery replacement, the condition as above must be avoided. Then what should be done to ensure that it will never happen once again? To learn more about batteries is the first step.

Toshiba laptop battery history

Shortly, the technology of laptop batteries has passed by a long way. Experienced by the age of Ni-cd and Ni-MH, the batteries today come to be lighter and far more powerful than several years before. However, the battery technology is still limited. Even if a rechargeable laptop battery, it won't finally get rid of failure. That is, with the continuously developed technology, the battery still cannot get the point of an unlimited lifespan.

What will the battery life lead to?

At the end of the usage life, the battery power cannot be offered as much as before.

Every time of use, it will be shorted by the quality and capacity until absolutely dead. Normally, a new Toshiba Laptop Battery such as Toshiba PA2487U Battery and Toshiba PA3395U-1BRS Battery will last for nearly 2 years or more. If it is not enough for you, a 3 year warranty can be available with an extra expense.

What should be done to Toshiba laptop battery?

It is usually strange for most users to get a replacement battery for the laptop. Although so easy it is, where and how to get a proper one seems to be tough. If you have learned a little knowledge of the parameters, quality and compatibility, it is absolutely easy to get a best battery with a low price.

A reliable manufacturer or retailer of Toshiba laptop battery

Compared with shopping mall retailers, it seems to be a more efficient way to get a replacement laptop battery. Not only the price can by compared in several websites, but the further information about compatible laptop models, battery care and output voltage and current of the battery are provided.

Besides, a reliable manufacturer or retailer usually will offer you a warranty of 1 full year. The accident damage cannot be avoided by chance for most manufacturers. Certainly, the refurbished battery can also be excluded.

A proper compatible Toshiba laptop battery

Laptop battery is a device of highly specialized technology. Even if a Toshiba laptop battery, it cannot match all the Toshiba laptops well. Each model has its own nominal voltage and current. It is best to choose by the specification to get a compatible battery for your laptop. Normally, the seller provides you a compatible laptop model list, which will get you the answer. Besides, just search for the parts number is a good choice.

For someone who is often on business trip, it is significant to buy new Toshiba laptop battery instead of a refurbished one as a replacement. Any time to experience the condition of automatic shutdown or restart will drive you mad. A battery with enough capacity and stable performance can relax you from recharging frequently.

Get Productive Life with Your Toshiba Laptop

Discover ways to prolong the Toshiba laptop battery life is an excellent way for cost-saving since fresh laptop batteries are usually highly-priced. Toshiba laptop batteries has charge cycle for about 300-500 times, and for most people, after 12-18 months usuage, you will need to find a new replacement. Sometimes, instead of costing hundreds to buy a new replacement battery when it's dead, some people might consider buying a new laptop directly. Actually, by following a few simple tricks, you can maximize the run time and battery life.

One of the most detrimental conditions for a battery is high temperature. Short battery life in a laptop such as Toshiba PA2487U, Toshiba PA3107U-1BRS, Toshiba PA3383U-1BRS, Toshiba PA3384U-1BRS, Toshiba PA3285U-1BRS, Toshiba PA3191U-1BRS, Toshiba PA3166U-1BRS, Toshiba PA3331U-1BRS, Toshiba PA3098U-1BRS and Toshiba PA3084U-1BRS is mainly caused by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns. A battery heats up as you use the notebook computer but the Toshiba laptop battery will be overheating if you do not use it properly. Laptop fans is a key component for doing air exchanging and cool down the temperature of the laptop. If the fans can not work, you might get trouble on your laptop. The internal fans in laptops are designed to provide sufficient airflow to keep the computer from getting hot. When the fan in your Toshiba notebook fails and laptop over-heated, it might because you put the computer on a soft surface and clog the fan holes. Putting your laptop in bed or your lap, the Toshiba laptop battery may be overheating since soft surface cannot dissipate heat. Thefore, avoid doing so is important.

Let's talk about storage. In general it is not a good idea to leave your Toshiba laptop in your car. Extreme heat in the day and then cold in the night and cycling this over and over will not be good for your laptop. Hot batteries will discharge very quickly and this ruins the battery.

Charging a battery is a must for continued performance of laptop mobility. You don't need to totally discharge, then recharge the Toshiba Laptop Battery occasionally to make it last longer. Discharging and charging does not increase the life of a Lithium Ion technology battery. Also, the Toshiba battery is designed to stop using the charger when it reaches full charge therefore there is no worry about the "overcharging" problem.

The next important piece of equipment you need is the ac adapter. Without it, you wouldn't be able to use your computer after an hour or two. You can extend the life of the Toshiba adapter by treating it gently, never pulling the cord to remove the plug from the wall and never pinching the cord in drawers, under furniture legs or in doors.

If you're like me, your laptop spends as much time on your desk as it does on the road. If you are leaving the battery connected while on AC power in office, it's in the loss of charge cycles. Battery's temperature is higher on AC power resulting in accelerated aging. That's not good for battery's life. Thefore, just use the battery when you need it. When on traveling, try to rely only fitfully on your batteries. The optimal charge level is 40% for prolonged storage. For Lithium-Ion Toshiba laptop battery cells, full discharge/recharge cycles result in an increased loss of capacity, so, partial charge is better for keeping the battery life. If you run your laptop remotely all the time causing deep battery drains, you won't get as much life out of your batteries.

Problems of HP Battery

HP laptop battery has gone through several generations' development, regardless of its size, capacity and type, it has undergone tremendous changes. Currently used in HP notebook computers mostly are nickel-hydrogen battery cells or lithium batteries. HP laptop battery is generally composed by the battery cover, pack and protection circuits and other components. HP laptop battery is very important, of practical use.The HP battery also has some problems, mainly focused on the issue can not be used and calibration. Most models of HP laptop battery are of a protection circuit, when the HP laptop battery temperature is too high or excessive discharge current when the HP laptop battery power may be automatically forced. Battery protection circuit in the temperature beyond the preset temperature protection circuit will automatically power off to protect batteries and HP laptop.

Solution: High-temperature damage for HP laptop battery is very large, should be avoided in the high-temperature environment, or the use of high load HP notebook computers, the situation faced off automatically remove the HP laptop battery can be placed in a cool place shortly after reboot to use. In addition, when HP laptop battery such as Hp 346970-001 battery, Hp HSTNN-DB02 battery, Hp HSTNN-UB02 battery, Hp DP390A battery, Compaq PP2100 battery, Compaq Presario R3000 battery(Compaq r3000 battery), Compaq Presario X6000 battery, Hp Pavilion ZV5000 battery(Hp zv5000 battery), Hp Pavilion ZV6000 battery(Hp zv6000 battery) to a significant decline in performance, they can fully charge and discharge electricity to solve this problem, but to be cautious that the HP laptop battery calibration should not be too frequent, which will shorten battery's lifespan.

Note: HP laptop battery is easy to consume online, used hundreds of times we should scrap it, and HP laptop battery is not cheap, typically 80 to 110 us dollars. Therefore we should pay attention to the process of using HP laptop battery with care and maintenance.

Sony Developing Sugar Battery

Sony today announced the development of a bio battery that generates electricity from carbohydrates (sugar) utilizing enzymes as its catalyst, through the application of power generation principles found in living organisms.

Sony has created a battery that produces electricity by breaking down sugar. The bio cell, which measures 39 millimeters cubed, delivers 50mW milliWatts which is a world record for such a cell.

I’m so proud of Sony, they really have been making great efforts in going green. I love watching how ordinary day-to-day items in our kitchen or in our home can provide an answer. Sorta like looking in the rainforest.

Test cells of this bio battery have achieved power output of 50 mW, currently the world's highest level for passive-type bio batteries such as Sony PCGA-BP71 battery and Sony PCG-Z505 battery. The output of these test cells is sufficient to power music play back on a memory-type Walkman.

In order to realize the world's highest power output, Sony developed a system of breaking down sugar to generate electricity that involves efficiently immobilizing enzymes and the mediator (electronic conduction materials) while retaining the activity of the enzymes at the anode.

Sony also developed a new cathode structure which efficiently supplies oxygen to the electrode while ensuring that the appropriate water content is maintained. Optimizing the electrolyte for these two technologies has enabled these power output levels to be reached.

Sugar is a naturally occurring energy source produced by plants through photosynthesis. It is therefore regenerative, and can be found in most areas of the earth, underlining the potential for sugar-based bio batteries as an ecologically-friendly energy device of the future.

Sony is going to continue its development of immobilization systems, electrode composition and other technologies in order to further enhance power output and durability, with the aim of realizing practical applications for these bio batteries in the future.

The research results presented here have been accepted as an academic paper at the 234th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in Boston, MA USA, and were announced yesterday.

This can be really frustrating as how can do you work until the monitor starts functioning? What you can do is troubleshoot this problem by following some very basic steps to resolve the problem. This you can do before you take your laptop to HP laptop repair center.

If you see that the display of your laptop is low, then the laptop repair can be done by minimizing the brightness of the laptop such as Hp F2019A, Hp F2019B, OmniBook 6000, Hp F1739A, Omnibook XE, Hp F2024B, Hp F2024A, HP XH260, Pavilion N5200, Omnibook XE3, Hp 346970-001, Hp HSTNN-DB02 and Hp HSTNN-UB02. You can control the brightness of the laptop with help of the two buttons situated at the top of the keyboard. You can also press f9 and f10 buttons to vary the brightness level.

To exactly diagnose the problem, plug the laptop to an external monitor. If you view the pictures with perfection, then there is some internal problem. Hence, your hp laptop needs HP laptop repair session. The next thing is you can abort all the application to check the error. The laptop may be facing problem due to interference of the software with the output device. The laptop restart brings the laptop to normal operation. Now, find the hp lid switch. It is situated near the hinges.
